Road Curbs

We have been producing high quality road curbs since 2002.

The curb has both aesthetic and structural functions, as it is a visible boundary element between the road and structures outside the road and must withstand major stresses such as a vehicle’s ascent over time. Stone road kerbs are a valuable solution for delimiting and defining roadways, sidewalks and flower beds, while imparting great strength and refined aesthetics. They are able to withstand considerable mechanical stress and weathering. Made of serizzo or Sardinian granite, they offer maximum strength and remarkable elegance. The kerbs can be bush-hammered, shot-blasted or point-worked, and can be linear or circular.

Granite mining in the quarry

Granite is an intrusive rock formed by the slow cooling of magma at depth in specific geological areas. Granite quarries are found in different parts of Italy and the world, but Sardinia is among the regions most renowned for the high quality and beauty of its granite. Sardinian deposits can have different shades of gray, pink or even more pronounced veining, characteristics that influence the aesthetics of the finished product.

Processing of granite blocks to obtain curbs

Once extracted, the granite blocks are processed into kerbs of various sizes, depending on the project and the client’s needs (width, height, length). Here are the main steps:

Sawing: the blocks are cut into smaller portions using diamond wire saws or special blades that allow for a clean cut.
Shaping: after the initial roughing process, the granite slabs or parallelepipeds are further processed to obtain the desired shape, i.e., the classic “elongated parallelepiped” with standard dimensions (e.g., 10×20×100 cm).

Finish: The kerb can be left split, that is, with an irregular and rustic surface, or it can be worked to a bush-hammered, flamed or polished effect, depending on aesthetic and technical requirements. Bush-hammering increases friction and slip resistance, which is particularly useful in areas subject to rain or frost.
Quality control: each batch of curbs is inspected for defects (cracks, crevices, inclusions). After that, the ready-made curbs are packed and prepared for shipment.

Granite curbs are mainly transported by truck or container by ship in the case of international exports. Since curbs are heavy and require some care during loading and unloading, appropriate machinery (forklifts, cranes) and secure fasteners are used to avoid damage during transfer.
