Porphyry Cubes
We have been producing high quality road curbs since 2002.
Porphyry is an effusive volcanic rock or, more precisely, a Phylonian eruptive rock. Its peculiarity is the presence of crystals (phenocrysts) immersed in a finer background paste, often reddish-purple, brown or gray in color. Thanks to this composition, porphyry is distinguished by its high mechanical strength and excellent durability with respect to weathering and wear. In Italy, one of the most famous areas for porphyry quarrying is Trentino Alto Adige, particularly Val di Cembra, where Trentino porphyry, known worldwide for its quality, has been quarried for centuries. However, there are also other quarrying areas, both domestically and internationally, each with slightly different color and physical characteristics.
The production of the cubes
Once the porphyry blocks are recovered, an initial qualitative selection is made, discarding material with irreparable defects (cracks, unwanted inclusions, etc.). Blocks deemed suitable are reduced to a more manageable size by disk saw or mechanical splitting. To obtain the traditional cubes (usually of standard sizes 4/6, 6/8, 8/10, 10/12 cm, etc.), the smaller blocks pass through specific machinery equipped with steel blades and splitting hammers. The splitting process gives the material that characteristic irregular surface that lends charm and rusticity to the paving. The final, natural split appearance allows for high slip resistance and good grip even in wet conditions.
Quality control and final selection

Processing of granite blocks to obtain curbs
he porphyry, especially the Trentino porphyry, is considered one of the most valuable materials for outdoor paving. Among its main peculiarities are:
High mechanical strength: withstands even very high loads without noticeable deformation over time.
Weather resistance: does not easily deteriorate in contact with frost, snow, rain or major temperature changes.
Low coefficient of water absorption: it tends not to absorb liquids, thus reducing the risk of staining and haloing.
Excellent durability: a porphyry pavement is bound to last for decades, if not centuries, with minimal maintenance.
Timeless aesthetics: the irregular surfaces, color gradients and patina created over time give a “timeless” appeal that is suited to both historic centers and modern architectural settings.
